Global Ambassador
Each year the Greek Canadian Games is honoured to have a Global Ambassador that is a role model to Athletes participating in the Greek Canadian Games. The role of the Global Ambassador is to be the face of The Games, lifting the spirit of what the Greek Canadian Games represents!

Global Ambassador 2017
The Greek Canadian Games was thrilled have Olympic Gold Medallist from Greece, Ioannis Melissanidis, as our Global Ambassador for the 2017 Games. Ioannis won the Gold Medal in Atlanta in 1996 and is the youngest Olympic Gold medalist in the history of men's gymnastics, and Greece's first in gymnastics in 100 years.
He has two vaults named after him in the code of points, was a torch bearer in the final leg of the opening ceremonies in Athens 2004, and was an ambassador for the 2015 Special Olympics in Los Angeles. After retirement, Ioannis studied theatre at RADA in London, and at AADA in Los Angeles.
The Greek Canadian Games would like to thank Ioannis Melissanidis for being the second Global Ambassador, and an exciting role model for our youth. His enthusiasm, passion, and love for the youth made the Games exhilarating!
Voula Patoulidou,
Global Ambassador 2016
The Greek Canadian Games was honoured to have Olympic Goal Medalist Voula Patoulidou as the first Global Ambassador in the inaugural Games. Throughout her athletic career, Patoulidou competed in the 100 metres, 100 metres hurdles and in the long jump events. During the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Patoulidou became a Greek sporting legend when she was the surprise winner of the Women's 100 m hurdles race. The unheralded victory made Patoulidou the first female Greek sportswoman to win an Olympic gold medal, and thus, inaugurated a new era for Greek sports. Patoulidou’s triumph became a defining moment and inspiration in the quest for Olympic success for Greeks!
The Greek-Canadian Games would like to thank Ms. Voula Patoulidou for being the first Global Ambassador, and the perfect role-model for our youth. Her enthusiasm, passion, and love for the youth made the inaugural Games a memorable experience.

Always a supporter of my heritage, I decided to step out of my comfort zone, cancel some other commitments, and encourage my children and bring her to the epic event we now call in full "THE GREEK CANADIAN GAMES"!
Best decision I had made!
As soon as I walked through the doors of Bill Crothers SS, I went from skeptical to fully committed in a matter of seconds! We were greeted with smiles and what we know as "φιλοξενια". The event already looked to be professionally organized with order and zero chaos. My first impression, ended up being my lasting impression...
It was one of the best decisions I made as a parent for my children. I have three girls of different athletic abilities, however, they all benefited equally!
The fact that it was organized by professionals that are clearly giving back to the community and encouraging our youth to be the best that they can be, is what I keep emphasizing to my daughters!
The actual games are just one aspect of the event that took place, it was the fact that our kids have all these people to look up to, people who care, people that are living to their full potential and are the example I want for my children.
My daughter will participate (very willingly) until they are 14, and then it will be their turn to be mentored as volunteers and give back to the community!
It was a quality event, that brought together quality values and quality people!
