Community Ambassador
Each year the Greek Canadian Games is fortunate to have a Community Ambassador who is a Special Olympian. This Community Ambassador brings alive the spirit of the Athletes, and has the responsibility of reading the oath at the opening of The Games.
Marissa Papaconstantinou,
Community Ambassador 2017
A vibrant and athletic 17-year-old, Marissa Papaconstantinou dreams of becoming a sports broadcaster one day after pursuing her education at Ryerson University starting next fall. Marissa was born without her right foot but she has never let that slow her down. She is currently the Canadian record holder for the 100m and 200m sprint in her classification of female athletes with a disability below the knee. A respected leader and teammate she also excels at her studies at her sports-focused high school at Bill Crothers in the High Performance Athletics Program.
Marissa competed at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. She is ranked 9th in the world in the 100m and 3rd in the world, in the 200m sprint in her class. At 16 she was the youngest competitor in her events by at least 4 years at both the World Championships and Paralympic games. Her goals are to continue to compete in future World Championships and Paralympic Games.

Kristin Papaconstantinou,
Community Ambassador 2017
An outgoing and athletic 16 year old, Kristin Papaconstantinou dreams of becoming a lawyer and one day competing at the university and international levels for soccer.
At a young age Kristin demonstrated strong athletic skills and as a result was a part of district and provincial teams during her late elementary school years. Her drive and constant determination to continually move further in her soccer development has her aspiring to play for team Canada and post secondary in the NCAA or CIAU. She is also a driven student at her sports focused high school, Bill Crother’s Secondary School, always ensuring she excels in her studies.
Thank you, Kristin, for being an incredible addition to our ambassadors, and a great role model to our youth!

Always a supporter of my heritage, I decided to step out of my comfort zone, cancel some other commitments, and encourage my children and bring her to the epic event we now call in full "THE GREEK CANADIAN GAMES"!
Best decision I had made!
As soon as I walked through the doors of Bill Crothers SS, I went from skeptical to fully committed in a matter of seconds! We were greeted with smiles and what we know as "φιλοξενια". The event already looked to be professionally organized with order and zero chaos. My first impression, ended up being my lasting impression...
It was one of the best decisions I made as a parent for my children. I have three girls of different athletic abilities, however, they all benefited equally!
The fact that it was organized by professionals that are clearly giving back to the community and encouraging our youth to be the best that they can be, is what I keep emphasizing to my daughters!
The actual games are just one aspect of the event that took place, it was the fact that our kids have all these people to look up to, people who care, people that are living to their full potential and are the example I want for my children.
My daughter will participate (very willingly) until they are 14, and then it will be their turn to be mentored as volunteers and give back to the community!
It was a quality event, that brought together quality values and quality people!
